I found an interesting video called "7 tips for iterating on a character design"
He mentions about shape language for a bit in the video, which I could link to what we learned in class. It also links with Shanth Enjeti's lesson on simple shapes and using that to develop interesting characters. I also think he does a good job in trying to encourage artists to explore the character a bit more. Whether it needs fresh eyes to create ideas or draw them in different poses. The worst thing for the drawing is not use it. I thought that was an interesting bit.
I've outlines the 7 tips below:
1. sleep on it/ take a break/give it fresh eye
2. meditate on the story
3. explore reference that informs your character
4. experiment with/exaggerate the shape language
5. draw in different poses
6. no wrong answers
7. draw it a second time

How Toshiyuki Itahana from Square Enix do Character Design
This is what he was working on
I thought this was interesting. I found a video of a person who took the time to analyze the character designs in Final Fantasy 12. He brings out some information on the choices being made for the character design and its purpose of subtle hints of the character's personality.
